The most spectacular veteran Actor PRAN of Hindi Movies has been named for the most prestigious award in film
Industry in India ,The Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
This award earlier was also bestowed upon Lata Mangeshkar,Dileepkumar,Dev Anand & Yash Chopra .
PRAN ,many may not be knowing,was called the Black Gold of Bollywood.
He had appeared in 350 Hindi movies,which probably is the highest number of appearance in Hindi screen it seems,
though can not be stated as confirmed.
PRAN was born in the year 1920.He has completed 92 years & is now running 93.his full name is PRAN Kishen Sikand.
He was honored with Padmabhooshan by the Government of India in 2001.
He was a student of Mathematics .This could be news to many.
He had acted for 60 Long years in films.almost all the famous actors of Bollywood had the good fortune of
Getting associated with PRAN in Hindi films.
For along time he was a born Villain of Hindi Screen.
His voice was so suiting for the roles of villains.he was the most successful Villain in Bollywood ,I can say with my individual assessment.
I have seen most of his Hindi films.some of them twice& thrice just for hearing the dialogue of PRAN which was
a treat for my ears.
The best of his film I had seen was " MADHUMATI" in which Dileepkumar appeared as the hero& Vijayanthi mall the heroine.
The film was so good to watch.PRAN was the villain in the film,a role one could never forget.the excellent Music
Of the Movie by Salil Chowdhary,which started a new trend also contributed towards making the movie so famous
The most memorable films of PRAN, to mention some of them are JANJIR,KARZ,UPKAR,SHARABHI,PURAB AUR PASHMIM,
& RAM AUR SHYAM.
PRAN ,is perhaps the only villain in Hindi screen ,who elevated the status of a villain equal to that of a Hero.
After doing the roles of villains for a long time ,PRAN started to appear in character roles also.All his character roles were successful.
The role of Sherkahan in JANJIR along with Amitabh Bachan is the most celebrated character role he played.
His film Jhony Mera Naamwith Dev Anand was also a super hit.For that matter,all his films were ,in fact,were
Super hits.
His voice was his biggest asset for the roles he did in Films.
He is now 92 & still kicking.He is leading a happy life with his wife,2 sons& a daughter

It is true that in all films cutting across all barriers of language, culture, creed and nations, heroes not only survive but also shine at the expense of the villains.Pran fitted into the slot of the villain readily providing
ReplyDeletethe then heroes all the glamour that they wanted and that was what the industry also wanted at that time.He is a true veteran in the sense that if you subtract Pran from those films what remains may be the neighbourhood of
vacuum.Evil has to be there ,then only can there be any scope for the good. Pran symbolized all the ugly and the evil of those films, thus providing a chance to Dileepkumar and others a chance to be the good.
Even though late, let us whole heartedly welcome the decision of the authorities to honour Pran and there by recognizing his contributions, because as an old adage goes, it is better to be late than never.
In this context I am reminded of MN Nambiar, Asokan and the likes of the tamil screen without whom there would not have been MGR, Shivaji Ganesan and the likes.
Thank you for bringing back into us the memories of our childhood when we loved to see the triumph of the good over the evil at least on the screen.it is a fact that while in real life, the villains on the screen are better than most gentlemen and even heroes on the screen.
Exactly.PRAN in true life is said to be a thorough gentleman with good character.
