Sreebali in Vaikom Mahadeva Temple

Shri Mahadeva Temple in Vaikom Kerala is ,perhaps,the oldest Temple in Kerala.This great Temple is also considered to be the Kasi Temple of the South. There is a strong belief existing in Kerala that if a devotee visits and prays in Vaikom Mahadeva Temple,Kadaturutty Mahadeva Temple and Ettumanur Mahadeva Temple on the same Day before the Ucha Pooja( noon Pooja after 12-00 pm) all his wishes would behead and fulfilled by Lord siva. There are famous Temples in Thrissur District also.They are Vadakkumnathan Temple in the heart of Thrissur,and Mammiyur Temple in Guruvayur. This Vaikom Mahadeva Temple is also one Temple in the category of Mahakshetrams of Kerala. The most famous festival in this Temple is the famous " ASHTAMI FESTIVAL" held in the month of December every year. In the year 2014 ,this Festival was held on a big scale fromDecember 3 to December 15.this timings of the Festival is popularly known as Luna Fortnight of Malayalam month between November and December. The festival is celebrated with the Traditional way of Ezhunnallippu with Caprisoned Elephants.Elephant pageant is the attraction of the festival on the final day of Ashtami Utsav. Everyday Devotees are offered an Annadanam a popular Custom in Temples. The added attraction of the Ashtami Festival is that all the deities in the neighboring Temples are Ceremoniouslybrought to the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple and offered POOJAS. This way a devotee can see all the deities of the neifgboouring Temples also on Ashtami day and pray to his full satisfaction.
